Pianist Mandy Chiu has a distinguished and accomplished career as a soloist, chamber musician, ballet accompanist and teacher. Her career has taken her from Australia and Southeast Asia, to major cities in the United States- Boston, New York, and now, San Francisco.

Ms. Chiu serves on the faculty of Nueva Music Department, Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) and Crowden Music School. She regularly collaborates cellist Kevin Yu (http://kevinyucello.com) and violinist Dr. Anthony Doheny (https://music.stanford.edu/people/tony-doheny), playing chamber concerts throughout the Bay Area. The concert programs often reflect Ms. Chiu’s unique taste in twentieth century repertoire.

Aspiring to build a strong musical community, Ms Chiu plays in many local concerts and hosts soires for professional and amateur musicians in her San Francisco studio. The soires provide an intimate concert experience, allowing musicians to share and exchange stories of their musical pursuits. Ms Chiu’s sense of artistic community stems from her time collaborating with various ballet companies on the east coast.

Ms Chiu’s deep interest in ballet repertoire led her to a fast rising accompanying career in New York. She collaborated with Alvin Ailey Dance Company, American Ballet Theater, Boston Ballet Company and Houston Ballet Company. Her constant quest to be an ever-evolving pianist has led her to explore several musical paths, now culminating in her unique career of performance and mentorship.

As a Taiwanese Australian, Ms.Chiu was brought up in a rich cultural background. Her colorful and well-travelled upbringing reflects strongly in her playing style. She favours music that carries a distinct flavor of nationality. Ms. Chiu began her career as a pianist at the age of eight, completing her initial training at the prestigious Taipei Music Talent School. Her performing career flourished when Neta Maughan became her mentor in Sydney. Winning numerous competitions and scholarship awards, Ms. Chiu played frequently in Sydney Opera House and Town Hall, as well as in concert series, such as Mostly Mozart and Monster Piano Festival. She made several appearances on radio 2MBS-FM to inspire and share her performing experiences with other young Australian musicians.

Ms. Chiu received her Bachelor of Music with Honors from the Sydney Conservatorium. Her teachers included Neta Maughan, Elizabeth Powell, Max Olding and Pamela Page. She later graduated from Boston University with a Master of Music in Piano Performance, under the tutelage of Dr. Jonathan Bass, Michael Reynolds and Dr. Linda Jiorle-Nagy.
